Tying adjustable sutures

In this video we demonstrate tying adjustable sutures. The 6-0 vicryl has already been woven through the full muscle width and has been secured to the edges with locking bites. Partial thickness scleral bites have been used to reattach the muscle to the globe. We begin tying the suture ends using a double throw. This holds the muscle in place temporarily and allows the positioning to be verified with a calliper. The suture is then secured using a single throw with a bow on one end. The suture can then be released for adjustment once the retrobulbar anaesthesia has worn off.
