6-0 Vicryl Suture
We typically use 6-0 vicryl on a curved spatulated needle for reattaching muscles to the globe as well as for conjunctival closure. Vicryl is a synthetic absorbable suture made from 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide. It retains 50% of its tensile strength at 3 weeks and is fully resorbed by 8-10 weeks. A side-cutting or spatulated needle is preferred when making scleral bites to allow maximal control and minimize the chances of inadvertent penetration into the eye.
