Dr. Shiva Tyagarajan

Visiting Professor

Shiva graduated after successfully cheering for the Nittany Lions in the happy valley and started his Post-doctoral training at the University of Zurich. Presently, his research group at the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Zurich, is trying to understand the molecular basis of plasticity at GABAergic synapses. In order to achieve this aim they use a combination of molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry and confocal imaging. However, functional analysis of plasticity changes requires the delicate art of electrophysiology recordings and the Bowie lab harbors the tools and expertise to create and interpret this art form. Shiva is visiting McGill to learn the intricacies of this highly advanced art form from the Bowie lab members and also initiate collaborative project(s) as part of the Zurich-McGill collaboration.
