Madeline Ward
Undergraduate Student

Madeline is from Vancouver, BC and spent some time growing up near Hong Kong. Driven by her passion for medicine and healthcare, Madeline is pursuing a BSc in Pharmacology and Therapeutics at McGill University. During her time at McGill, she has received the James McGill Scholarship Award and the Tomlinson Engagement Award for Mentoring in physics, biology and chemistry while being on the Dean’s Honour List. At the Bowie lab, Madeline is taking on a research project studying the pathology and potential drug targets of Fragile X Syndrome. She is particularly interested in investigating the impact of different phosphodiesterase inhibitors on metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (mGluR5) and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) signalling in the Fragile X brain. Inspired by her interest in neurological disorders, Madeline is also involved in a Neuropharmacology lab as an undergraduate research volunteer, where she analyzes data regarding the influence of Christianson syndrome on neuronal health, supervised by Dr. Anne McKinney. In her spare time, Madeline works with the Canadian Red Cross Health Equipment Loan Program and serves as chair for international Model United Nations Conferences. She also enjoys hiking, paddle boarding, sustainable fashion and listening to music.
