Note: The University has implemented an e-billing policy. A paper fee statement will no longer be mailed via Canada Post. Financial Aid

The McGill Scholarships and Student Aid Office offers financial assistance to students with demonstrated need.  Students may also obtain information regarding financial aid, debt management, personal finances, etc.

Students who have applied for the maximum amount of government funding will be considered for need-based awards.  Those wishing to apply for McGill assistance may arrange for an interview with a Student Aid Counsellor during the academic year. If necessary, arrangements can be made to see students outside the usual appointment hours.

Government Aid

Residents of Québec
Residents of Québec may apply for government assistance from the Québec Loan and Bursary Program.  Applications are available on-line at www.afe.gouv.qc.ca or paper applications can be obtained from the McGill Student Aid Office.

A few things to keep in mind about the Québec Loan and Bursary Program:
When filling out their application, medical students must indicate the year of their program (1, 2, 3 or 4), i.e. the year they will be in, in September of the award year. Students from CEGEP and students who are entering pre-med must use the program code for the Bachelor of Science.  Failure to do so will result in errors and delays.
Any questions or problems should be addressed to the McGill Student Aid Office.

Residents of Canadian Provinces (Outside Of Québec)
Students must apply to their province of residence for government assistance (Canada Student Loan Program and provincial student aid).  A list of provincial ministries can be found on the Student Aid Office website at: www.mcgill.ca/studentaid.  Most provinces have on-line applications.  It is strongly suggested that the application be made prior to June 30 in order to receive funds by the start of the term.

Line of Credit for Canadian Citizens
Students may also apply for a professional student line of credit.  It is best to check with several banks to see which one best suit your needs.

U.S. Citizens and US permanent residents
US citizens and US permanent residents are eligible to apply for loan funds (unsubsidized and Grad PLUS) from the US Direct Loan program. Information on the loans, amounts and HOW TO APPLY are at www.mcgill.ca/studentaid/government/us. Please read and follow the steps on how to apply as it now includes a new application through Minerva and the application process is different from those for US schools. Application deadline to receive funds by the tuition payment deadline is June 1.

Questions on US loans? Please contact us.studentaid@mcgill.ca.

Bursary from the RAMQ
Students who are interested in practicing rural family medicine after graduating from the residency program may be eligible for bursaries during their core clerkship and/or senior clerkship years. Bursaries of $15,000 to $20,000 are awarded annually to students.
