Case: The image of the knee illustrates the typical signs of scurvy. There is (1) a radiodense band at the provisional line of calcification, (2) a dense outlining of a small epiphysis, the "ring sign of scurvy" (3) a wedge shaped "corner sign of scurvy". The child had been breast fed for the first 6 month of life and on sweetened condensed milk for the last 6 months. Follow up x-rays (on the right) several weeks after vitamin C treatment show calcification of the periosteum elevated by sub-periosteal hemorrhages before treatment.
