Image 52: This missionary who had worked for many years in Africa presented with discomfort of a years duration in the right buttock when sitting. Image 52: These were thought to be benign dystrophic calcifications secondary to intramuscular Quinimax injections for malaria. She had received a number of these for malaria attacks over the years. The lesion was excised because it was a "bother" and the the histology confirmed the initial impression. Such calcifications have been described in past generations who have received injections of quinine, penicillin, bismuth or salvarsan, an arsenical used in the past to treat syphilis and trypanosomiasis
