Fellowship Programs
 

The Department of Diagnostic Radiology offers one to two year fellowships in:

These fellowships are sponsored by the MUHC Radiology Associates with a stipend of $65,000 per annum.

Royal College Neuroradiology fellowship funding to be reviewed on per case basis.

The following 4 fellowships are also available but are non-funded. These fellowships are available to externally funded candidates as well as Quebec graduates funded by RAMQ.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Selected candidates will be asked to complete the Admissions process as required by the PGME Office Link above.  

Eligibility

Fellowship candidates must have completed an accredited Radiology training program and be:

  • Certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Diagnostic Imaging or

  • American Board of Radiology certified/eligible or

  • ECFMG or USMLE (Steps I & 2) or MCCQE I & II or the MCCEE or Certified with equivalent qualifications.*

* A physician who holds a valid specialty certificate, and who obtains a letter from the Dean of their Medical School attesting support for the additional fellowship training may be exempt from the above exams. Eligibility is limited to 3 years maximum, renewable yearly.

Proof of these qualifications must be provided by all applicants.

** Reference letters for the Royal College Neuroradiology Fellowship and Pediatric Fellowship Programs should be addressed to the respective Program Directors. Mailing address is the same as above.

An application is not complete until three letters of reference have been received under separate cover by the Department of Radiology, Administrative Office. Letters of reference can be sent by e-mail or fax by the referees. Please ensure that your referees send signed originals letters to our office.

Note: it is the applicant’s responsibly to ensure that all reference letters are received by the Department of Radiology administrative office. Referees will not be contacted by the Department for the purpose of requesting these letters.

Deadlines

Deadline for receipt of applications is September 30 (18 to 20 months prior to commencement date)

i.e. deadline for July 2014 start date would be September 30, 2012

Interviews

Applications will be reviewed by the respective fellowship supervisor. Candidates will be contacted for an interview and please be advised that candidates must come for a personal interviews. No telephone interviews are accepted. Interviews will be organized will begin in October or November and last interviews to be held by February.

International Medical Graduates

All IMG applications must receive a letter of eligibility from the College des médecins du Quebec (CMQ) and must meet immigration requirements. International Medical Graduates, once accepted, must submit the documents listed on the CMQ website:

If an applicant does not have the USMLE or ECMFG examinations, please be advised that a letter from the Dean of Medicine of your school is required. This letter needs to attest that you were a student in good standing and the Dean supports your fellowship at McGill. If applicant does not have USMLE or ECFMG exams then they must have specialist certificate. Training requirement - 5 years of postgraduate training in Radiology.

Accreditation

None of these fellowships is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), which only accredits US programs.

Specialty accreditation: The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) is the Canadian body that certifies medical specialists. The 2 year Neuroradiology Fellowship is accredited by the Royal College.Candidates must meet eligibility requirements and must be certified in their primary speciality (Diagnostic Radiology) in order to write the certification examination. Pediatric Radiology (1 year ) is also accredited by the RCPSC with certification examination.  Eligibility requirements are the same as above.
