Introduction
McGill Postgraduate Medical Education welcomes applications from medical doctors who wish to apply
for an accredited residency program or for a post-residency fellowship.
The information contained in this section will help applicants
understand how post-MD training occurs at McGill University and in our
hospital network, and gives information on the objectives of training,
the standards of behavior in the learning environment, language of instruction, the postgraduate
evaluation and promotion system, diplomas and attestations of training,
and awards and prizes available. It is important for applicants and for
trainees to be and to remain familiar with these important aspects of
medical education, which are updated yearly.
The postgraduate medical
residency programs and post residency fellowships are under the direction of the Faculty Postgraduate
Medical Education Committee which reports to the Dean and the Faculty.
The Associate Dean for Postgraduate Medical Education chairs this
committee. The mandate of the committee is to ensure excellent standards
and good functioning of postgraduate residency training at McGill
University. Each program has a residency program committee. These
committees report to the Faculty Postgraduate Education Committee and
the appropriate departmental chair or divisional chiefs. The Associate
Dean for Postgraduate Medical Education is an ex officio member of each
of these residency committees. The Program Director may or may not be
the departmental chair or division head. The members of these residency
committees are drawn from the attending staff of the participating
accredited hospitals, and include at least one trainee from the program
elected by his/her peers.
