Electives by Out of Quebec
Trainees
McGill University will accept elective
requests from the following trainees: Canadian citizens or Permanent
Residents of Canada who are registered in a residency program
elsewhere in Canada, be they graduates of a Canadian or American
medical school or International Medical Graduates.
As far as trainees registered in a residency program in the U.S.A.
are concerned, these must be Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents
of Canada, as well as graduates of a Canadian or American medical
school, in order to be accepted to complete an elective at McGill.
All elective requests must be approved by the McGill Postgraduate
Medical Education office
in order to occur.
Out-of-province trainees can complete a
maximum of three months of elective at McGill University (except
where inter-university agreements exist). The application process is as follows:
1. The resident must complete the
McGill
application form
and submit it along with the following documents:
- copy of his/her medical degree;
- letter of support and funding from his/her Program Director, indicating that the resident's salary
will be maintained during this elective period (the letter must come
directly from the University);
- proof
of malpractice insurance coverage for the elective in Quebec (in Canada CMPA coverage is available
for any trainee coming into the province of Quebec from the rest of
Canada);
- proof of Canadian citizenship or Permanent Residency.
All documents must be
received by the McGill Postgrad office three months prior
to the onset
of the elective rotation. Late requests or requests that are missing
documents will be refused.
2. The resident must obtain a
training card from the Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ), as well as
pay the training card fee. This is done via the CMQ web site at
http://www.cmq.org/en/EtudiantsResidents/CartesStages.aspx.
3.
