The Electrocardiogram: an interactive exercise
Read these instructions
before starting!
This applet lets you draw a typical ECG, given information
about blood pressure and volume at corresponding times in the cardiac cycle.
The
applet is divided into four zones, each corresponding to a different segment of the ECG.
- Click on the screen where you see "Start Here". Keep the mouse
button pressed down and drag the arrow across the screen, tracing out the shape of the ECG.
- As you enter each new zone a popup
window will appear, explaining the changes in blood pressure and
volume which are occurring during the time interval which you have
just entered.
- Use the information from the
pressure and volume curves, and the popup windows, to guide you in
your drawing - this will help you understand the relationship
between electrical excitation, pressure and volume events in the
heart.
