Biomedical Signals Acquisition

Offset
When recording biomedical signals, it is often the case that the baseline needs to be adjusted: the signal may not fall within the amplifier range. One needs to adjust the offset, or the fluctuation in the baseline value of the signal.

An example of function generator with adjustment knobs for the following parameters:
  • waveform frequency
  • waveform type
  • waveform selection
  • waveform amplitude

Adjusting the DC offset knob on the function generator causes the trace to move from the original baseline. If not careful, the trace could be outside of the display range as well as the amplifier range.
