Sara Deschaine is originally from Potsdam, New York, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Clarkson University. During her undergraduate career, Sara studied gold nanoparticles functionalized with therapeutics in the Partch Laboratory and received an NSF REU Fellowship to work in the Schwendemen Laboratory evaluating the cholesterol mobilizing effect of synthetic high density lipoprotein formulations. Following graduation, Sara received an NIH Post-Baccalaureate Intramural Training Award Fellowship to work in Dr. Leggio's group evaluating the relationship between appetitive hormones and alcohol use disorder. She joined the Bowie Lab in January 2019 and is currently studying neuroplasticity in the GABAergic inhibitory circuitry of the cerebellum.
