Hometown:

  • Buenos Aires, Argentina

Education:

  • I obtained my Undergraduate degree in Biotechnology at the National University of Quilmes in 2007 (Buenos Aires, Argentina). Before joining McGill in January 2009 I worked one year in the field of Parasitology in Buenos Aires, where I gained experience in cell culture. I was studying Chagas' disease, an endemic condition in Latin America.

Research Interests:

  • Mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease progression, Down`s syndrome, Biomarkers, Growth Factors

Current projects:

  • Presently I am in the 4th year of the PhD program. My research in focuses on the very early pre-clinical, asymptomatic stages of Alzheimer`s disease. Our efforts are directed at identifying potential new biomarkers that can define the transition from healthy aging to AD. Specifically, I am interested in the protein nerve growth factor (NGF) which is essential for the “well-being” of a group of neurons that are severely affected in AD and Down`s syndrome and have key roles in learning and memory.

  • During the period from 2011-2012 I volunteered at the Saturday Activity Center from the Alzheimer Society of Montreal, where I helped to engage AD patients in stimulating body and brain activities.

  •  My studies in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics are currently supported by a 3-year Biomedical Doctoral Award from the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
