I completed my PhD studies in
Genetics and Molecular Biology, at University of
Pavia, Department of Genetics and Microbiology, on
January 2005. My thesis project (Structural
characterization and functional analysis of
Rv2358-furB operon from Mycobacterium tuberculosis)
was aimed to investigate the transcriptional regulation
of the Rv2358-furB operon from Mycobacterium
tuberculosis, encoding for two putative transcritpional
regulators involved in metal homeostasis . Part of
the work was financed by the 'Young Researcher Program'
opened for PhD students of the University of Pavia.

My bachelor program, at University of
Genova, focused on Molecular Biology and was completed
with a Master thesis (October 2001) with the following
title ‘Cloning, expression and purification of the human
histone H4, and structural characterization’.

I’ve worked in the past two years at the
characterization of a novel rat model of Alzheimer’s
disease, in which the accumulation of soluble forms of
the Amyloid Beta peptide (Aβ) is associated with spatial
learning and memory impairments. I also developed stably
transfected cell lines carrying the human Amyloid
Precursor Protein (APP), from which Aβ is generated,
either in the wt or AD-linked mutated form. I’m
currently working at defining the causality between
soluble Aβ accumulation and the dysregulation of
signaling cascades involved in the memory formation and
retrieval processes.
