Nadine (Nadia) DEMKO M.D.

As is our pathology so is our practice…what the pathologist thinks today, the physician does tomorrow.” - Sir William Osler

The pathologist is the ultimate diagnostician - responsible for collecting, integrating and interpreting data from pathological, radiological and clinical sources. This is not only intellectually stimulating, but also contributes vitally to patient care.

As can be deduced from her opening Dr. Osler quote, Dr. Demko is a McGillian through and through, having obtained her Medical degree, BSc in Neuroscience, MSc in Experimental Medicine and embarked on a Pathology residency all at McGill.

Throughout her studies, she has been involved in a diverse array of research including molecular neuroscience, gynaecology, medical education, clinical translation and global health systems. She hopes to delve deeper into new academic interests, particularly molecular pathology and clinical informatics. When not immersed in academics, she enjoys singing in a choir, playing instruments, jogging and biking, dancing ballet, and volunteering in the Ukrainian-Canadian community.

From the constellations above us, to the cells making us, nature organizes itself into patterns that our conscience can decipher and contemplate. A conscience that lives in a vessel, subject to diseases and illness. To defeat pathologies, one must understand them, from molecules to physiology. That ultimately is the role of the pathologist.

Dr. Grenier is a avid scholar, who completed a bachelor degree in biotechnology and a PhD in Neuroscience prior to embarking on the medical profession journey. His research interests include mitochondrial biology, organoids as prognosticating tools in medicine and mast cells in physiology and disease, while his clinical interests reside in pediatric and perinatal pathology, neuropathology and molecular pathology. Otherwise, he is fulfilled being a #girldad, playing music or hockey with friends and observing mushrooms on hikes.

Gurdip Singh Tamber M.D., B.Sc

Urban Myth: Pathologists are introverts

The Truth: Quite the contrary.

Imagine a group of kids who are sitting quietly and are captivated by a great story teller who takes them to a journey beyond their imagination. In the world of medicine, this very great story teller is called a pathologist. Without any shadow of a doubt, a pathologist has a very unique role in the sphere of medicine. It is truly the only field where one gets to examine the patient at the molecular level. The role of a Pathologist is to put all the pieces of the puzzle like clinical history and biopsies and tell a fascinating story of a patient in the form of pathogenesis, etiology, diagnosis, management and prognosis. So, is a pathologist an Introvert? I don't think so!

In addition to a Bachelor of Science degree from McGill University, Dr Tamber completed his medical studies in Russia at the North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov. His latest research publications include "Deposits Identified in Dementia Eyes: Differences and Similarities to Pseudoexfoliation Material" (Submitted to Annual Glaucoma Society - 2016). His professional interests include molecular pathology, pathology informatics, ophthalmic pathology, neuropathology, oral pathology and hematopathology.

My journey to become a Pathologist begins with one slide at a time..........
