Research Activities

The Gynecological Oncology Unit at the McGill University Health Centre is involved both in fundamental (basic) and clinical research to improve the care of women with gynecological cancer.

The research activities are targeted towards multiple levels: cancer prevention, improvement of treatment outcome, and better control of treatment side effects.

Patients seen in our clinics have the opportunity to participate in clinical trials, when judged appropriate. For further information, please visit the Clinical Research Program of the Department of Oncology at: www.mcgill.ca/oncology/cto.

The multidisciplinary team is affiliated with the National Cancer Institute of Canada (NCIC), with the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group, and with the Gynecology Oncology Group (GOG). In addition, multiple clinical trials are activated in our institutions.

Our research activities include:

  • Innovative clinical trials on the HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccine for the prevention of cervical cancer.

  • Early detection of ovarian cancer –Trials on improving outcomes

  • Clinical research on the use of radiation sensitizers for cervical cancer

  • Clinical research on the use of Intensity Modulated Ratiation Therapy (IMRT) in the treatment of patients with gynecological cancer
