The Care of the Elderly
Enhanced Skills Program is a supplementary six or twelve month R3
training program dedicated to the care of the elderly upon completion of the
two-year core Family Medicine Residency. The
Who
should apply?
Family Medicine Residents who are completing the second year of Family
Medicine Residency, or practicing family physicians, who are interested
in:
Improving
their knowledge of the special needs of the frail elderly and their
clinical skills in managing this population.
Acting
as resource persons in care of the elderly in the community - urban or
rural.
Academic
careers in geriatric medicine.
Taking
on leadership roles including program development in settings such as Long
Term Care, Geriatric Assessment/Rehabilitation Units, or Home Care.

Training
sites include the Jewish General Hospital, St-Mary’s Hospital, the
A seminar introducing fellows to research is provided early in the academic year to facilitate the development and completion of scholarly projects. The Department of Family Medicine and the Division of Geriatric Medicine are rich in resources and faculty to support research and other academic projects. Protected time is provided as a one month rotation plus a scheduled half day for research weekly.
