" Thank you for providing the EMJL service. We received about 70 responses, of which about 7 were appropriately targeted to the posting. The rest seemed to be blanket responses from people with completely inappropriate qualifications. The 7 suitable applicants were of good quality, and one has recently been selected. We received postings from Europe, the US, India and Iran, but the majority were from China. Surprisingly few responses overall came from Canada, and none of the qualified applicants were from Canada.

You can remove the posting now. Thanks again for providing this service, and I hope my feedback is useful."

"You asked for my opinion and about the response to the ad. I am very pleased with the number of applications I have received. There were very few applications from within Canada or the USA, but many from Asia ¨C China and India in particular. I also received a few from France, Brazil and Mexico.

In retrospect, I should have mentioned that the salary I can offer is insufficient to cover the foreign student fees for persons coming from countries that do not have a Qu¨¦bec Delegation, in which case they can apply for a bursary to waive foreign student fees. Most unfortunately, it appears that Indian students have a difficult time obtaining these bursaries and I am getting e-mails and letters from such students every day. On the other hand, many francophone countries benefit from a political arrangement with Qu¨¦bec for such bursaries. In the end, I have selected candidates from France and Mexico (another nation that has numerous bursaries from the province). "

"Thank you for the EMJL service. I would like to ask you to remove this job posting as the position was filled with your help. I received around 30 submissions equally distributed between candidates from China, North Afirca and the Montreal Area. Candidates quality was varied and I was struck by the amount of young people fresh from university on the market."

"I probably received 30+ applicants about half were from Southern Ontario (which we had requested), 10+ from Montreal, 2 or 3 from elsewhere in Canada, 3 from the US, 1 from Europe, 2 from India.

As the posting was general most had the required background (although we did get 2+ who were still in school although we requested 2+ years post graduate experience, and another was learning the requested techniques as a volunteer (their resume said they had significant expertise !). I rejected one candidate based on the very poor quality of writing in their CV and cover letter although her background was good.

In general I find I get a very broad response from the several posting I've made through EMJL. As I do try to be fair and read and respond to each applicant personally I do find it trying and tiring at times but generally find that we get at least 2 or 3 very good prospects when we post.

I've posted 3 other positions on EMJL over the past 3 years and 2 of the 3 were filled by applicants through this website. Of the 4 short listed for this position 2 applied to the EMJL post.

I appreciate the opportunity to use it. Thanks."
