Overview The course is intended to deepen students' understanding and mastery of the fundamental concepts and principles in epidemiologic research

Target PhD students in the core-year of the department's epidemiology program

Topics Fundamental epidemiologic concepts, terminology and measures

Fractions, etiologic and prevented

Statistical models for rates

Classic and regression-based control of confounding

'Translating' effect-modification regression coefficients into words/pictures

History of the so-called 'cohort' study and the 'case-control' study

The etiologic study, and efficiency in conducting it

'Classic' pieces of epidemiologic research

Preparation/practice for 'a.m.' and 'p.m.' portions of comprehensive examination

Format Readings, exercises, presentations, discussions, and mock exams.
