Questionnaire for students registered in one or both of these courses

INTRODUCTION

We ask you to complete this questionnaire in order to help us (the course instructors) know better the students taking this course, and your potential instructional needs. Responses given will also be used to illustrate certain points in up-coming lectures. Please respond to all the questions as accurately as possible. If any results from this survey are shown in class, we will make sure that no individual identities could be deduced or even guessed at (i.e., summary information for the whole class only will be presented). Thank you.

IF YOU ARE TAKING 606, PLEASE COMPLETE AND SUBMIT THIS AFTER YOU HAVE ATTENDED THE 1ST 606 CLASS ON FRIDAY SEPT 7th -- the reason for, and answer to, the last (and 606-specific) question will only become evident during that 1st class.

IF YOU ARE NOT TAKING 606, YOU CAN GO AHEAD AND COMPLETE AND SUBMIT THIS NOW.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: 5 PM, MONDAY SEPTEMBER 10.

20. [This question is not testing material from a formal probability course .. it is just a check on your intuition]

The first assignment in the probability course in Berkeley used to be to toss a fair coin 50 times, record on a sheet of paper the sequence of heads and tails, and hand it in. Many students took a 'shortcut' and made up the sequence out of their head. Try your 'hand' (or head) at making up a random sequence of the results of 50 tosses, i.e., out of your head enter a sequence of 50 lower case h's and t's, with no blanks. The computer will beep when you have entered 50 letters.
