Welcome to the  McGill Cardiology Website.

Richard Haichin, MD.CM.  Webmaster

McGill University is located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The Cardiology Division has members at several adult hospitals in the city and links to a pediatric hospital as well. The main sites are the McGill University Health Centre (Montreal General, Lachine General and Royal Victoria sites, Montreal Children's Hospital) and the Sir Mortimer B. Davis Jewish General  Hospital.  Affiliated centres are St. Mary's Hospital Centre and Lakeshore General Hospital. The McGill RUIS covers much of the western portion of Quebec and extends to the Far North. Links to other regional centres are being expanded.

MAY 2012

Spring heads to summer. School heads to a finish line (maybe not this year...). The medical Academic Year draws to a close. End of the year, middle of the year, something new, on call, nothing to fear. Think about it!

ACE Contest  [See the Photo Gallery]

November 10, 2011, Yoko Restaurant, 6PM. Close was how to describe the 8th Annual ACE (Academic Contest of Excellence) at the Yoko Restaurant. The event was somewhat delayed by a Sherbrooke University team whose driver did not know Montreal and our traffic. Cardiology Fellows and staff mingled and ate at the Yoko Restaurant (good sushi and other Japanese food) while waiting for the late arrivals. Then the action began as teams answered questions and performed with the echo simulator against the clock and each other. McGill was initially behind but our strength literally showed through with a high score in the individual men and women push up contests! Congrats Ali Andalib and Malak (energizer) El Rayes for your strong arms. Heading in to the final question, McGill was in the lead and they got the final skill testing question right too! But they were conservative in their betting and it came back to bite them. Third place is not so bad.

Thanks to the gang from Servier for putting this event together again and to all those who helped prepare the event.

Interesting Echo Requests

Another batch of Quirky Coordinator Quips!

Below you will find a list of diagnoses and indications for echocardiograms, received at the RVH Echo Lab. The spellings are the absolute originals and they show that non-medical personnel often have a good grasp of the clinical situation as well as a keen sense of proper English medical terminology. Starting a new list November 2011.

MUHC STEMI Care

The door to treatment time for STEMI patients to the Cath Lab should be as short as possible. Early recognition, rapid ECG performance, a quick initial history and physical while the Cath Lab is called, followed by early protocol treatment (see MedUrge) and consent/preparation will save time and muscle as well as lives.  The ER physicians are asked to call the Cath Lab Attending directly (and before the CCU Fellow and Staff) in order to save valuable time We estimate this will save 15-20 mins. per patient. The Pager number is
