Curved Down Ribbon: Telehealth:
Better Links for Better Care

The use of communication technologies within the delivery of health-care services constitutes an innovative and promising avenue.

This concept is not new.  Even before the creation of the RUIS, the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), and more specifically the Montreal Children’s Hospital, had undertaken since 1998 the development of clinical applications through telehealth.  Acting on the initiative of “champion” clinicians and responding to the needs of remote regions, The Montreal Children’s Hospital has developed a considerable clinical expertise in telehealth.

Health professionals in all RUIS McGill  establishments (CHU, CHA, Readaptation Centres, CSSS’s health centres, other university establishments, MSSS) are showing an increasing interest in the development of telehealth services.  The ultimate goal is to offer to the population an improved access and continuity regarding specialized services, while respecting the hierarchical organization of care.  The goal of telehealth is to be able to serve a wider network of clients, more specifically, those of rural or remote regions, such as aboriginal population.
