OBJECTIVES
A. DECREASE THE AMOUNT OF WASTE PRODUCED BY LABS
- Provide designated recycling bins to be distributed within the department with the
goal of encouraging the recycling of PLASTIC waste from labs (e.g. bottles, pipette tip
boxes, packaging, etc.) – coming in the Fall of 2009
- Identify and advertise companies that:
- DO NOT use styrofoam packaging
- DO re-use styrofoam packaging
- DO offer greener alternatives for both equipment and products commonly used in
the department
- Work towards CONSOLIDATING orders from the same company amongst laboratories in the
department – Very long-term goal
B. MAKE THE DEPARTMENT MORE “GREEN” IN GENERAL
- Reduce STYROFOAM usage at seminars, in addition to
departmental events and
meetings
- Create recycling points (social room and near elevators) with divided categories
for paper/cardboard AND glass/plastic
C. ENCOURAGE ECO-FRIENDLY BEHAVIORS IN THE DEPARTMENT AND AT HOME
- Inform the department on where, why, how, and what to recycle.
- Encourage “re-thinking" the environment -
