The Division of Experimental Medicine Awards
Committee will meet in early January of each year to
consider applications for these travel awards.
The deadline for receipt of
applications is January 15th. Applications for
support to attend conferences which have already
taken place will be considered, as long as the
conference has taken place after May 31st of the
year preceding the date of application (see
Eligibility requirements below).
It is the candidate’s
responsibility to ensure that all required documents
are received at the departmental office (Rm. 101,
Lady Meredith House, 1110 Pine Avenue West) by that
date. Late or incomplete applications will not be
considered.
PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES OF THE AWARDS
These awards will be used to enhance the graduate
training of students enrolled in the 2nd or
subsequent years in the graduate program in
Experimental Medicine (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) by providing
travel funds for the presentation of a scholarly
contribution at a scientific conference, and this
within the academic year (May 1st to April 31st) of application.
SOURCE OF FUNDS
These awards derive from the income generated by an
endowment fund established in 2004 in memory of Dr.
Gerald B. Price, former Director of the Division of
Experimental Medicine and member of the Department
of Medicine and the McGill Cancer Centre, as well as
from monies set aside by the University for this
purpose.
VALUE OF AWARDS
The value of the travel awards is fixed
($1500.00). They may be used to pay for travel,
subsistence, conference fees, etc. at the
recipient’s discretion. Expenditure must be
justified with receipts.
SUPERVISOR CONTRIBUTION
The
recipient’s supervisor is expected to provide any
additional travel support necessary to enable the
student to attend the conference, up to a maximum of
$650.00.
ELIGIBILITY

At the time of application,
applicants must be registered as full-time graduate
students in Experimental Medicine (or additional
session students, working full-time on their

Students may apply prior to
receiving confirmation of acceptance, but must have
been accepted to present a paper or poster before
filing a claim for travel reimbursement.
-
Applications for support to attend conferences which
have already taken place will be considered, as long
as the conference has taken place after May
31st of the year preceding the date of

taken place or expected to take place between
May 1st, 2010 and April 30th, 2011.

ATTRIBUTION OF AWARDS
The
number of awards attributed will be dependent on the
amount of funding available (we estimate that for
the 2010-2011 academic year there
will be 18 awards available). The awards
themselves will be attributed by a random draw among
all eligible applicants.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESULTS
E-mails announcing competition results will be sent
to all applicants approximately 2 weeks after the
deadline. No results will be given over the phone.
